Chat about a student profile
Who this is for: Counsellors Time: 2-5 minutes You'll need: Access to the student's profile page
What this does
Use the Addie chat panel on a student's profile to ask follow-up questions about that student. This is useful when you want a quick summary, want to spot patterns, or want help turning profile details into next steps.
Before you begin
- Open the correct student from your Students list.
- Make sure the student profile has loaded.
- If you want to ask about a specific area, open the matching tab first, like Student Data, Teacher Comments, or Conversations.
Steps
1. Open the student's profile
Go to Students and select the student you want to review.
2. Check whether the Addie chat panel is already open
On the student profile page, Addie usually opens on the right side automatically.
If the chat is hidden, select Chat With Addie About [Student Name] in the top-right area of the page.
3. Review the part of the profile you want to ask about
Use the student tabs to open the information you want to discuss.
- Overview for a quick student summary and counselor notes
- Student Data for enrollments, classes, and courses
- Teacher Comments for teacher feedback and summary
- Conversations for assigned conversation history and progress
- General Chat for previous open-ended chat sessions
- Files or Majors when you want to ask about those areas
4. Ask Addie a direct question
Type your question in the message box at the bottom of the chat panel, then send it.
Good examples:
- What stands out in this student's recent activity?
- Summarize the main themes from teacher comments.
- What should I follow up on in our next meeting?
- Are there any gaps or risks I should notice here?
5. Use suggestions when you want a faster starting point
If suggestions are available, select Show Suggestions to open them.
Choose one to send a ready-made prompt to Addie.
6. Ask follow-up questions on a specific conversation
If you are reviewing the Conversations tab, open a conversation and select Discuss with Addie.
This is the best option when you want to ask about one conversation instead of the full student profile.
7. Save a useful response to the student's notes if needed
After Addie replies, you can select Save to note under the response.
Use this when you want to keep a helpful summary or follow-up point on the student's record.
What happens next
- Your questions and Addie responses stay in the chat history until you clear them.
- You can keep asking follow-up questions in the same thread.
- If you save a response, it is added to the student's notes.
If something looks wrong
The chat panel is not open
- Select Chat With Addie About [Student Name] from the student header.
- If the page is still loading, wait a moment and try again.
Addie is missing context you expected
- Open the student tab that matches the topic you want to ask about.
- Ask a more specific question, like teacher comments, classes, or conversation progress.
- For one assigned conversation, use Discuss with Addie inside that conversation view.
You want a fresh thread
- Select Clear History in the chat panel.
- Start a new question thread.
