Write a letter of recommendation
Who this is for: Counselors (only on schools with this feature enabled) Time: 15 min You'll need: A student record with teacher comments or notes on file
What this does
Generate a draft letter of recommendation grounded in facts from a student's record, then edit and export it.
Before you begin
- This feature appears in the sidebar only if your school has it enabled.
Open Letter of Recommendation
Select Letter of Recommendation in the left-hand navigation.
Search for a student
Search by name or email and select the student you're writing for.
Review the facts from the student's record
The left panel shows facts drawn from the student's record (teacher comments, the student's own words, context notes), each with its source.
Add direction (optional)
Enter a short note in Your direction for this draft to steer tone or content — for example, "Lean into the robotics setback story." This isn't inserted word-for-word; it guides the draft.
Generate the draft
Select Generate draft. The draft opens in an editable document with a title field and autosave.
Edit the draft
Edit the title and body directly. Changes save automatically.
Revise or regenerate (optional)
Select Revise draft to adjust the existing draft, or Re-generate draft to start over from scratch.
Export the letter
Select Export and choose Copy to clipboard, Export as PDF, or Export as Word (.docx).
What happens next
- The letter is saved to this student's workspace so you can return to edit it later.
If something looks wrong
The draft is missing facts I expected
- Confirm the facts exist on the student's record (teacher comments, notes) — the draft only draws from what's on file.
