Use your voice with Addie

What this does

Wherever you can send Addie a message, you can also press the microphone icon to talk instead of typing.

This works the same way in General Chat (the Ask Addie panel) and inside an assigned conversation, whether it is still in progress or already completed.

Before you begin

  • Sign in to Addie.
  • Open General Chat or an assigned conversation.
  • Allow microphone access if your browser or device asks for permission.

Find the microphone icon

Look next to the message box, beside the send button. The microphone icon sits in the same spot in General Chat and in conversation chat.

Press the microphone icon and speak

Press the icon and say what you want to tell Addie.

You do not need to type anything first — the microphone icon works on its own, right from an empty message box.

Review what Addie heard, then send

Your words are turned into a message. Check that it captured what you meant before it sends.

What happens next

  • Addie responds the same way it would to a typed message.
  • You can switch back to typing at any point — voice and text can be mixed in the same conversation.

If something looks wrong

Addie is not picking up my voice

  • Check that your browser or device has given Addie microphone permission.
  • Try moving somewhere quieter and speak again.

I would rather type

  • Type in the message box as usual. Voice is optional, not required.
  • Chat with Addie
  • Continue a conversation
  • Log a college experience
