Chat with Addie
What this does
Use General Chat to ask Addie general questions anytime.
You can use it for broad support, not just assigned conversations.
Before you begin
- Sign in to Addie.
- On desktop, look for the Ask Addie button at the top right of the app.
- On mobile, General Chat opens as a bottom sheet instead of a right-side panel.
Open General Chat
To open General Chat on desktop:
- select Ask Addie at the top right of the app, or
- open the right-side chat flyout if it is already available
On desktop, Addie opens in a right-side chat panel.
On mobile, it opens in a bottom sheet.
Start with a prompt suggestion or type your own question
When General Chat opens, you may see prompt suggestions under the heading Hey! I'm Addie, how can I help?
These are quick starting ideas, but you can also type your own question.
General Chat can be used for broader questions, such as:
- college or career questions
- planning questions
- general school or future-focused questions
- help thinking through something that is on your mind
Select a suggestion if you want a quick starting point
Select any prompt suggestion to send it right away.
You can also open more suggestions from the suggestions area when available.
If you want to browse more ideas, open All Suggestions.
Type and send your message
Type your question in the message box, then send it.
Addie responds inside the same right-side panel.
Continue the chat
Keep asking follow-up questions in the same session.
General Chat is useful when you want help without opening a specific assigned conversation.
You can also copy an Addie response or save it to your notes when those actions are available.
What happens next

- You may be able to reopen earlier General Chat sessions later.
- Some Addie responses can be saved to your notes.
If something looks wrong
I do not see the Ask Addie button
- The top-right Ask Addie button shows on desktop when the chat panel is closed.
- If the panel is already open, use the open chat panel instead.
- On mobile, look for the General Chat sheet instead of a desktop button.
I am not sure what to ask
- Start with a prompt suggestion.
- Open All Suggestions if you want more ideas.
- Or ask a simple general question in your own words.
This is not part of an assigned conversation
- That is okay.
- General Chat is meant for broader questions and support, not only assigned work.
